A conference to discuss the situation of Yemeni detainees at Guantánamo was organised by Reprieve and HOOD in San’a, Yemen on 8th to 10th January. Amnesty International participated in the conference, organising reading of poems by Guantanamo detainees.

Members of Amnesty International in South Korea gathered on Saturday 12 January in one of the busiest street in Seoul to protest illegal detentions by the US government. They collected 406 signatures urging President Bush to close down Guantánamo. (more…)

Members of AI Canada marked the 6th anniversary of the first transfers of detainees to Guantanamo with a street drama demonstration in front of the Embassy of the United States, from noon to 1pm on January 11th. We made a vivid and visible statement against Guantanamo for the Embassy and passing traffic to see, and we were able to engage passers-by in discussions about security and human rights.

Solitary action outside the Irish government buildings to mark the sixth anniversary of Guantánamo.

Some 130 activists dressed in orange jumpsuits gathered in Edinburgh, in the UK. There were protests outside the US embassy and in the city center.
