The Italian section has been holding demonstration in front of the American Embassy in Rome and other important Italian cities: Firenze (in front of the American consulate), Bologna, Ancona, Foggia, Milano, Venezia.

This morning, some 30 AI Italian activists (some of them wearing orange boiler suite) gathered outside the US Embassy in Rome holding a big banner “Close Guantánamo Now!”.

A man-shaped orange-dressed puppet was put on his kneels to attract attention. Passers-by and tourists joined the action and signed our petitions. European parliamentarians, who signed up the declaration calling for the closure of Guantánamo, also took part in the action and spoke to people standing there.

Mobilization in Rome keeps going on today, with a human statue dressed as a Guantanamo prisoner, calling attention for a thematic event, and the screening of the film The Road to Guantanamo.
