Luxembourg: Poems and Music in the sixth anniversary

AI Luxembourg organized a public action in the main square of Luxembourg Ville, starting at 12h30 until 13h30. Eight activists were dressed up as Guantánamo detainees with orange jumpsuits and black hoods and other activists supported the action with big banners.
The President of AI-Luxembourg opened the event with a speech. Then activists dressed up with orange boiler suits read poems in English, Spanish, French, German, Luxembourgish and Italian. Another activist accompanied the reading with live music, playing with the guitar.

Beside the stage we set up a cage where two activists stayed in different stress positions.
Other AI volunteers carried big orange signs demanding the closure of Guantánamo as well as collecting signatures from the public.
The event attracted a lot of attention from passers-by and, withing an hour 100 persons signed the petition in solidarity of the six Bosnian/Algerian men detained at Guantánamo.

There was very good media coverage with 14 different journalists from two television stations, three radio stations and nine newspapers and magazines attending the event. The President of AI Luxembourg attended interviews.
We also sold the book Poems from Guantánamo - The detainees speak.
