Turkey: Activism in Istanbul

Amnesty International in Turkey gathered yesterday in the center of Istanbul wearing orange jumpsuits to protest illegal US detentions at Guantánamo and elsewhere.

Last evening, a Norwegian rock band called Helldorado gave a concert in a popular concert hall wearing our “Close Guantanamo” t-shirts.

Paraguay: Guantánamo en escena

Teatro en ParaguayDesde las 9 horas de la mañana de hoy, voluntarios y voluntarias de Amnistía Internacional Paraguay realizaron un montaje escenográfico y teatral sobre la Cárcel de Guantánamo, además de recolectar firma para exigir el cierre inmediato del centro de detención y se ponga fin a la tortura y las “entregas extraordinarias” en todo el mundo.

Fabián Fleitas, Director de Visibilidad de AI Paraguay, resaltó “la importancia de recordar que actualmente permanecen recluidos allí unos 300 hombres, entre ellos 70 cuyo traslado o liberación se ha autorizado, pero que no pueden regresar a sus países de origen, bien porque allí podrían sufrir torturas, o bien porque son apátridas”. Luxembourg: Poems and Music in the sixth anniversary

AI Luxembourg organized a public action in the main square of Luxembourg Ville, starting at 12h30 until 13h30. Eight activists were dressed up as Guantánamo detainees with orange jumpsuits and black hoods and other activists supported the action with big banners.

Italy: Parliamentarians and orange boiler suites

The Italian section has been holding demonstration in front of the American Embassy in Rome and other important Italian cities: Firenze (in front of the American consulate), Bologna, Ancona, Foggia, Milano, Venezia.

6th anniversary... in Italy

This morning, some 30 AI Italian activists (some of them wearing orange boiler suite) gathered outside the US Embassy in Rome holding a big banner “Close Guantánamo Now!”.

Australia: Nearly 300 Activists in orange

Guantanamo Bay protest Sydney AustraliaOn a global day of action six years later, supporters in orange jumpsuits gathered outside the U.S. Consulate in Sydney’s Martin Place to represent the nearly 300 detainees remaining in Guantanamo Bay.

Activists wearing orange jump suits formed the figures 275 representing the approximate number of detainees still held in Guantanamo Bay.
