‘Hands up for your rights’ - Youth activism in Mongolia

On October 4, AI Mongolia launched their youth programme for UDHR60 named ‘Hands up for your rights’ with the Freedom Parade.’ The event was organized by nearly 80 youth/students group members and 40 students from other youth organisations.  Thousands of people were involved the event.

During the event, youth members organized the action to sign the “Close Guantanamo” petition and submitted it to the USA Embassy in Mongolia.  They distributed the Counter terror with justice campaign materials, dressed up in orange boilersuits and raised awareness on the issues of rendition, torture and other ill-treatment, and demanded the closure of the US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. Watch more pictures of the action

Birthday Celebration for Binyam Mohammed

Binyam Mohammed Birthday Party, Downing StreetReport back from the “Birthday” demo outside Downing Street yesterday: really good atmosphere with about 50 people making lots of noise, chanting “Bring Binyam home” and “Stop Guantanamo Bay”.

We were singing happy birthday, eating cake and holding posters and banners. There was a good spread of people, from the women in head scarves to men in suits, kids and elderly. Some were in orange jumpsuits, some in Binyam t-shirts.Binyam Mohammed Birthday Party, Downing Street

Passers-by were asked to sign petition to return Binyam to UK, as well as writing a note for him on a birthday card to be sent.
