Members of Amnesty International in South Korea gathered on Saturday 12 January in one of the busiest street in Seoul to protest illegal detentions by the US government. They collected 406 signatures urging President Bush to close down Guantánamo. (more…)
Members of AI Canada marked the 6th anniversary of the first transfers of detainees to Guantanamo with a street drama demonstration in front of the Embassy of the United States, from noon to 1pm on January 11th. We made a vivid and visible statement against Guantanamo for the Embassy and passing traffic to see, and we were able to engage passers-by in discussions about security and human rights.

In Athens, Amnesty International’s activists gathered in Syntagma square, opposite the Greek Parliament and staged a street theatre re-enactment of Guantánamo, ironically as a holiday resort from which you can never return. 



On a global day of action six years later, supporters in orange jumpsuits gathered outside the U.S. Consulate in Sydney’s Martin Place to represent the nearly 300 detainees remaining in Guantanamo Bay.
